TalkQuill — Privacy Policy

TalkQuill is a voice dictation app, designed to be private by default. This policy explains what happens to your data.

The short version

• TalkQuill has no servers and no accounts. We do not collect, see, or store your data.
• Your speech is transcribed on your device.
• Your dictation history is stored only on your device.
• If — and only if — you add your own Anthropic API key, your transcribed text is sent to Anthropic to be polished. Without a key, nothing leaves your device.

Microphone & speech recognition

TalkQuill uses your microphone only while you are actively dictating (when you tap the mic button). Audio is converted to text using Apple's on-device speech recognition and is not recorded, saved, or transmitted by TalkQuill.

On-device data

Your dictation history and app settings are stored locally on your device. They are not transmitted to us or anyone else. Deleting the app removes them.

Optional AI cleanup (Anthropic)

TalkQuill can optionally polish your transcribed text using Claude. This is off by default and happens only if you enter your own Anthropic API key in Settings. When enabled:

• The transcribed text (not your audio) is sent to Anthropic's API to be cleaned up, and the result is returned to your device.
• Your API key is stored securely in your device's Keychain and is used only to authenticate these requests.
• This processing is subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

If you do not enter a key, TalkQuill makes no network requests and operates entirely on your device.

What we don't do

• No analytics or usage tracking.
• No advertising.
• No third-party data sharing.
• No user accounts.

Children

TalkQuill is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
